| Kampung Kuantan & Bukit
Belimbing: |
Kuala Selangor is the only
place in this region where you can witness the sight of millions
of fireflies flashing in synchrony, often referred to as the
"Eighth Wonder of the world".
You will be taken on a boat ride along the Selangor River where
the fireflies inhibit around the branches of the "Berembang"
trees along the riverbank.
Here, up to thousands of fireflies may group together on a tree,
these fireflies begin flashing something akin to what glowworms
do but at a rate of three flashes per second. In doing so, a
fascinating spectacle similar to Christmas tree lights is created

| Taman Alam - Nature Park
|
This 800-acre park,
located in Kuala Selangor is a heaven for a wide variety of
flora and fauna. If you are lucky, you will be able to spot
wild animals in their natural surroundings, such as mammals
like the smooth otter, leopard cat, silver-leafed monkey and
macaques, some 99 species of local birds, 57 migratory birds
of which 26 are waders.
There are also about 15 species of crabs, a variety of butterflies,
insects, reptiles, molluscs and fish, and not to forget mud
skippers, mud lobster and king crabs.
Other points of interest are the watch towers, the mouth of
the Selangor River, the secondary forest, mangrove forest, the
board walk and mud flats. |

| Melawati Hill / Bukit
Melawati, Kuala Selangor |
 |
Melawati Hill is located in the
coastal town of Kuala Selangor, a 30-minute drive from Kuala
Lumpur. In the late 18th Century, the second Sultan of Selangor
had a fortress constructed on Melawati Hill to protect the state
from intruders.
The hill provided a vantage point to monitor ships in the Straits
of Malacca. Even with a strategic hold, the Melawati Fort yielded
to the Dutch cannons.
It was again destroyed during the Selangor Civil War, when warring
factions fought for tin-rich lands. All that remains of the
fort now are its cannons, its original foundation stones and
fabled execution block. The landscaped hill offers a panoramic
view of the Selangor coastline.
Visitors will be delighted to watch the free-roaming Silverleaf
Monkeys in the area. The adults are dark-haired with a tinge
of silver, while the young ones are a bright orange. Gentle
and adorable, they graciously wait for bread or fruits from
visitors, unlike the mischievous Long Tail Macaques.
Today, there is a tram car service that takes you to the top.
In the vicinity is a royal mausoleum where past Selangor sultans
were buried. Other attractions here are a lighthouse, a royal
mausoleum and a quaint rest house. |
